Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Centers
Senate Bill (SB) 492, 83rd Legislature, Regular Session, 2013, adds Chapter 248A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Centers to Title 4, Subtitle B, of the Texas Health and Safety Code. A prescribed pediatric extended care center is a new facility type the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) will license and regulate. Prescribed pediatric extended care centers will provide daily care in a non-residential setting to medically dependent or technology dependent minors under the age of 21. The DADS Regulatory Services Division is currently developing licensing standards to govern prescribed pediatric extended care centers with rules expected to be adopted in the summer of 2014. Individuals operating a prescribed pediatric extended care center in which medical, psychosocial, therapeutic and developmental services are provided to medically dependent or technologically dependent minors will be required to obtain a prescribed pediatric extended care center license beginning January 1, 2015. DADS asks all persons with questions about the public policy development process or who are interested in opening a prescribed pediatric extended care center to email ppecc@dads.state.tx.us. Additional information about the program and services will be shared on the DADS website at http://www.dads.state.tx.us/providers/ppecc/ as it becomes available.
