McKnight’s reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued a final rule confirming that the federal government will pay the full cost of new Medicaid beneficiaries as the program expands across the country to implement the health care reform law.
However, the federal government’s contribution will decrease after 2016. By 2020, the contribution will be 90 percent. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the heath care reform law but gave states the option to expand Medicaid. Some states, including Texas, oppose the expansion.
The governor’s office posted an infographic on the web site about the law and Medicaid in Texas. Lawmakers continue the battle. Governor Rick Perry, Senator John Cornyn, and Senator Ted Cruz will discuss the issue today.
Both news conferences are being held at the Texas Capitol today: Perry’s at 10:30 a.m. in the Governor’s Reception Room, 2S.1;l the Castro brothers speak at 12:30 p.m. in the Speakers Press Committee Room, 2W.6.
