DADS released five information letters.
DBMD:
DADS informed these providers of death reporting requirement changes within the DBMD program. An excerpt:
Effective June 1, 2012, providers must report to DADS, deaths of all individuals enrolled in the DBMD program. Within 24 hours after learning of the death of an individual, DBMD providers must complete DADS form 8493 “Notification to DADS Regarding a Death in the Home and Community-based Services (HCS), Texas Home Living (TxHml) and Deaf Blind with Multiple Disabilities (DBMD) Programs,” and submit the form by fax to DADS at (512) 438-4148. The form is available on the DADS website at the following link: http://www.dads.state.tx.us/handbooks/dbmd/forms/index.asp.
NF Administrators, Social Workers, and Rehab Therapy Staff:
DADS will need the date and the NF administrator’s signature on the following forms, effective immediately (Letter):
• Form 1017, Specialized Services Durable Medical Equipment Authorization
• Form 1018 Specialized Services Customized Manual Wheelchair Authorization
• Form 3706 Nursing Facility Customized Power Wheelchair Authorization
• Form 8730, Nursing Facility Augmentative Communication Device Authorization
Local Authority Service Coordinators (LASC) and HCS:
DADS changed the HCS program to implement a Board of Nursing rule at Title 22, TAC Code, §217.11(3), and the board’s Position Statement 15.28: an RN’s comprehensive nursing assessment lays the foundation for the provision of nursing to a person. (Letter)
HCS:
Changes in IL 1-151, dated January 17, 2012: all individuals in the HCS program must have received a comprehensive nursing assessment; and providers must be in compliance with Texas Human Resources Code, Chapter D, Subchapter D-1 regarding “Administration of Medication for Clients with Intellectual and Development Disabilities.” (Letter)
DAHS, CBA, MDCP, PHC, CAS, HSC, CLASS CMA, CLASS CDA, TxHmL, DBMD, and LASC:
DADS is expanding UMR activities to include DAHS review, which includes individuals who continue to receive DAHS through DADS and are reimbursed by DADS, effective June 1, 2012. (Letter)
