The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that the federal government will provide matching funds to state Medicaid programs to implement electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs. The funding is designed to help states improve the quality and efficiency of health care. For example, several providers treating one Medicaid patient will have electronic access to the patient’s records to coordinate care.
The EHR program was established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Federal matching funds announced so far:
- Maryland: $1.37 million
- Minnesota: $1.04 million
- Louisiana: $1.85 million
- New Jersey: $4.93 million
- Missouri: $1.53 million
- Washington: $967,000
- New Mexico: $405,000
- Puerto Rico: $1.80 million
- Oregon: $3.53 million
