The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) issued five information letters last week.
— In a letter to Nursing Facility Administrators, which updates Provider Letter #04-18, DADS informed these providers about the Promoting Independence Initiative, developed in response to the Supreme Court ruling in Olmstead v. L.C, 110 S. Ct. 2176 (1999). For more information, download the letter here.
— In a letter to Region 3 Community Based Alternatives Providers in the Dallas and Tarrant areas, DADS announced the implementation of the Integrated Care Management (ICM) Program, effective February 1, 2008. You may download the letter here.
— In a letter to Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Mental Retardation (ICF/MR) Providers and Mental Retardation Authorities, DADS clarified the responsibilities of ICF/MR providers related to Texas Administrative Code, Title 40, Social Services and Assistance; Part 1, Department of Aging and Disability Services; Chapter 9, Mental Retardation Services – Medicaid State Operating Agency Responsibilities; Subchapter E, ICF/MR Programs – Contracting; Division 4, Provider Service Requirements; Rule §9.223, Review of Living Options.

— DADS informed Community Based Alternatives, Primary Home Care, and Day Activity and Health Service Providers that the ICM program will begin February 1, 2008 in the following 13 counties: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Navarro, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise. — In a letter to Home and Community-based Services, Texas Home Living, Community Living Assistance and Support Service, Consolidated Waiver Program, Deaf Blind Multiple Disability, and Community-based Alternatives Providers, DADS encouraged these providers to contact their local Division for Rehabilitation Services Area Manager and Division for Blind Services Field Director to begin establishing a partnership for the Consumer Employment initiative project.
